NEW NOMAD
Jewellery Series · Polyamide, Gold-Plated Stainless Steel & Silver
New Nomad explores cultural identity and global image circulation through the reinterpretation of traditional jewellery forms from different regions and traditions. Historical references were digitally transformed into contemporary mask-like jewellery compositions through collage, CAD modelling and additive manufacturing processes. The project reflects on jewellery as a carrier of identity, symbolism and cultural memory within an increasingly globalised visual culture.
Images of traditional jewellery from different regions and continents were collected, archived and digitally combined into new hybrid compositions. The mask became an important recurring element within the series, functioning both as a universal form of adornment and as a symbol of transformation, projection and shifting identity.
New Nomad originated from an interest in cultural mobility, global image circulation and the role of jewellery as a form of personal and collective expression. The project investigates how traditional jewellery forms communicate identity, belonging and cultural meaning, while questioning how these systems shift within contemporary global culture.
Images of traditional jewellery from different regions and continents were collected, archived and digitally combined into new hybrid compositions. References originating from diverse cultural contexts were merged into mask-like forms that move between ornament, identity construction and speculative cultural artefacts.
Digital collage processes, image manipulation, vector drawing and CAD modelling were used to transform these references into wearable jewellery objects. Through this process, historical motifs and symbolic forms were translated into contemporary pieces balancing familiarity and abstraction.
The mask became an important recurring element within the series, functioning both as a universal form of adornment and as a symbol of transformation, projection and shifting identity. The work reflects on how jewellery can operate simultaneously as decoration, communication and cultural marker.
New Nomad explores the tension between globalisation and individuality, questioning how contemporary visual culture influences the way identity, heritage and cultural references are constructed and worn today.
